Speaking to talkSPORT, former Chelsea and Rangers player Ray Wilkins has predicted whether Liverpool or Manchester United will be knocked out of the Europa League, ahead of the first leg tie this evening.
Wilkins said: “I really do expect Liverpool to come out and put Manchester United under immense amounts of pressure. If that’s the case, then it will be a tough evening for United. I would say over the [two legs] United will beat them, but tonight is vital [if Liverpool want to progress].”
Liverpool host the first leg of the round of 16 game this evening, and they will be looking to take advantage of their home atmosphere by picking up a win.
The most important thing to do will be to keep a clean sheet, meaning that the Reds can head to Old Trafford knowing they are in control of the game.
Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his players put in the sort of performances they have been showing recently, and if the Reds play at their top level, they should face no trouble defeating United.
However, since Louis van Gaal’s appointment as head coach, the Red Devils have had a hold over Liverpool, not losing a single one of their games against the Merseyside club.
Wilkins believes that United will continue this great run, by securing passage to the next round of the Europa League by defeating Liverpool over two legs.
He claims Liverpool need to be at the top of their game tonight if they want any chance, but overall, the former Manchester United midfielder believes the Red Devils have enough about them to win over two legs.
