The teenager was an interesting participant in the session yesterday.

Sunderland are not in action this week, as they were due to face Everton who remain in the FA Cup.

The Black Cats could therefore lose ground in their relegation fight - especially if Newcastle United pick up a win against league leaders Leicester City on Monday night.

So Sunderland are not going to be downing tools in the run up to their next game, which is against local and relegation rivals Newcastle United next Sunday.

The players have been going through their paces in training at the Academy of Light - including one rather surprising presence.

Ethan Robson was snapped in the session, working out with Lee Cattermole.

Robson is a 19-year-old central midfielder who has been with the club since the age of eight and is considered a top prospect at the club.

He is however out of contract in the summer and it could be that Sam Allardyce is checking him out with the first-team in order to evaluate whether he is worthy of a new deal.

Or perhaps Robson might even get a chance in the Sunderland first-team.
