Michael Owen shares what Rafael Benitez has told him about Premier League return

Rafael Benitez has been linked with Newcastle United.

Former Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has revealed on social networking site Twitter that Rafael Benitez is desperate to return to the Premier League.

Benitez is without a managerial job at the moment, having been sacked by Spanish giants Real Madrid in January of this year.

Owen, a former Liverpool and Madrid striker, has revealed that the Spaniard wants to return to management in England.

According to BBC Sport, Newcastle will target Benitez if they sack head coach Steve McClaren.

McClaren has come under pressure due to the Magpies’ disappointing performances and results this season.

Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment and are in real danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season.

For Benitez, taking charge of Newcastle after Madrid would be quite a step-down, but since he is apparently so keen on returning to the Premier League, it would make sense for him to take the Magpies’ managerial job if it is offered to him.
