Tottenham will take on Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Owen has backed the North London outfit to pick up all three points from the encounter, and has predicted Tottenham attacking midfielder Erik Lamela to score.
“A game you feel Spurs have to win if they are to maintain a credible title challenge and I think they will; Mauricio Pochettino’s men have a good recent record at Villa Park and I have been impressed in recent weeks by Erik Lamela who is taken to find the back of the Villa net on Sunday,” Owen wrote on Betvictor.com.
A footnote added: “Michael’s recommendation: Erik Lamela to score at anytime at 9/4.”
Villa are struggling for survival in the Premier League at the moment, and anything other than a win for Spurs would be a massive surprise.
It is interesting that Owen has sung the praises of Lamela, whose good performances this season have gone under the radar a bit.
The 24-year-old Argentina international, who can play as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, has scored three goals and created 50 chances in 26 Premier League appearances for Spurs so far this campaign.
The former AS Roma star has a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 54%, and has won nine headers, 30 headers and 39 tackles.
