The pundit feels Leicester have proved nothing can be ruled out in football... even with Newcastle.
Indeed, Leicester were fighting relegation last campaign and are now five points clear at the top of the table.
And Keown told the Mail on Thursday afternoon: "To put it in perspective, this would be like Newcastle getting out of trouble now and winning the title next season (I think Aston Villa are done for). We’d say that’s never going to happen. But that’s what’s happening now and football has taught us once again you can never say never."
It's an interesting premise and you certainly wouldn't expect the Magpies to achieve anywhere near what Keown suggests. Leicester reacted far better to fighting relegation last season, while they had played better football all campaign long despite sitting near the bottom.
But, if Newcastle can miraculously stay up - without Steve McClaren holding them back next term - things could be a lot better at St James' Park and that point is certainly a valid one.
With Sunderland looking far stronger under Sam Allardyce, Newcastle's survival hopes are very, very slim, of course, but even going down could see them thrive in the Championship like it did last time.
