Liverpool players thank fans for support against Man United

Six members of Liverpool's first-team squad take to Twitter to thanks the fans for their support during the 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

Liverpool took a giant step towards qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday night with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United and it did not take long for some of the Merseyside side's players to acknowledge the supporters.

Jurgen Klopp's team took the lead in the first half thanks to a penalty from Daniel Sturridge, before Roberto Firmino doubled the advantage with a close-range finish 17 minutes from time.

The result has left Liverpool in a commanding position ahead of next week's second leg at Old Trafford, but while the players were understandably jubilant about their win, they were quick to thanks the fans who attended the game at Anfield.

Liverpool have been lacking a memorable European night at Anfield, but the atmosphere inside their home ground was electric as they gained bragging rights over their fierce rivals.

The trio of Brad Smith, Danny Ings and Sheyi Ojo - all of whom were not involved on Thursday evening - also commented on the noise made by Liverpool's fans.

Victory for Liverpool broke a four-game losing sequence against United which stretched back to March 2014.
