Leicester's Jeffrey Schlupp baffled by Newcastle's league position

Newcastle Utd - St James Park

Leicester City and Newcastle United go head-to-head next week.

Leicester City player Jeffrey Schlupp has been speaking to the club’s official website ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Monday evening.

The Foxes are currently five points clear at the top of the table and look on course for an unlikely but thoroughly deserved title win, while Newcastle are fighting for their top flight survival at the opposite end of the table.

The Magpies are currently 19th in the Premier League, one point away from safety with 10 matches remaining, and Schlupp for one cannot quite believe the Magpies have struggled so much this season.

Speaking to lcfc.com, the 23-year-old said, “They’re a really good team and everyone is still baffled as to why they’re so low in the league.

“We respect them but we’ll be trying to beat them like we do in every game.”

Leicester won 3-0 in the reverse fixture courtesy of goals from Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki and a repeat of that would go down a treat at the King Power Stadium next week.

But Newcastle will want to put their recent disappointing performance against Bournemouth behind them, knowing full well that a couple of victories on the bounce will ease the clouds that have been gathering over St James’ Park in recent times.
