Jurgen Klopp comments on Marouane Fellaini, says Liverpool goalkeeper coped well

Simon Mignolet

Jurgen Klopp has praised Liverpol's Simon Mignolet for coping with the awkard Manchester United attacker.

Marouane Fellaini may not be every Manchester United fan's cup of tea, but he certainly creates an extra headache for the opposition to deal with.

The Belgian's inclusion coincided with a disjointed United performance as they lost 2-0, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp acknowledged his threat in his post game interview.

He said he was particularly happy with the performance of his goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, because of the threat Fellaini posed.

Speaking to the club's official website, Klopp said: "Simon Mignolet, we can start with him, he was really good. Everything, absolutely no mistake in this game and it’s difficult to stay concentrated when you always know each cross or corner or each free-kick is really dangerous because [Marouane] Fellaini is on the pitch."

Fellaini has his merits, but last night proved to be a bad game to play him in, with United's looking a very different side to the team which beat Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Liverpool fully deserved their win, and take a healthy lead into the second leg at Old Trafford next week, having avoided the pitfall of avoiding an away goal.

Whether Fellaini gets the nod to start in the fixture is another matter.
