His quotes perhaps reflect how Tottenham's title challenge is seen in Germany.
And the ex-Dortmund man has predicted a title win for the north London side.
"After Leicester, Tottenham are the biggest surprise of the season for me," Riedle is quoted as saying.
"I think they'll win the championship at the end of the day. They have a good team, good players. The squad works very hard."
Mathematically speaking, any Spurs title would need Leicester to slip up. The Foxes are five points clear of Tottenham and are viewed by many as having an 'easier' run-in than their rivals.
Leicester also finished their Premier League season strongly last term, winning seven of their last nine games.
But the Tottenham squad won't be throwing in the towel anytime soon; they still have momentum and the fact they are in this position at all comes as a bonus when their realistic aim from day one would have been a top-four place.
The chance of European glory is also one not to be missed. If Spurs can knock Dortmund out of the Europa League, who is there left to fear?
