Cheikhou Kouyate has told West Ham United’s official site that he will play anywhere to benefit the side.
Kouyate has been stationed at centre-back in recent weeks, as West Ham’s injury problems have mounted up.
The Senegalese international has looked strong in defence, and he insists that he is more than willing to play at the back.
“As I have said before, I am a midfielder however; I am prepared to do anything for the benefit of the team,” Kouyate said. “I would even be willing to play in goal if needed.
“So when the boss asked me to fill in at centre back, I was happy to do so. I played at the back in the Champions League with Anderlecht and so I am comfortable playing in that position.”
Kouyate has been one of West Ham’s outstanding performers throughout the campaign so far.
The 26-year-old’s has been very consistent, and his energy in the centre of the pitch has caught the eye.
Kouyate has now made 31 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions, and he is likely to start against Manchester United in the FA Cup at the weekend.
With many of Slaven Bilic’s side’s defenders still on the treatment table, it is expected that Kouyate will continue in his central defensive role on Sunday.
If West Ham can beat United at Old Trafford, they will book themselves a place at Wembley in the semi-finals of the cup competitions.
