Nigeria youth international Kelechi Nwakali has told reporters that he is delighted to have signed a deal with Arsenal after choosing the club over a number of other suitors, the Mirror reports.
The Gunners have long been linked with the talented midfielder after he was named the Player of the Tournament during Nigeria’s U17 World Cup triumph in Chile last year.
Predominantly a box-to-box midfielder, Kelechi displayed his raw talent as he looked energetic and feisty out of possession, while having superb vision and a sense of calmness on the ball.
The deal in place for him to join the North Londoners is said to be in the region of £3 million, a figure quoted by the Mirror, and the player himself has claimed that a five-year deal has been struck.
“I just came back from London, I have signed a five-year contract with Arsenal. So many teams were interested in me but it has been my dream at a tender age to play for Arsenal,” he explained.
Arsenal have long missed a player of Patrick Vieira’s mould, one who could dominate the midfield with strength and force but also have the leadership skills to drive the team on.
Kelechi, while still only 17, possesses an aura about him which suggests he could go on to achieve big things in the game, and Arsenal have done well to reportedly beat stiff competition for his signature.
The Mirror go on to say that the Diamond Football Academy star will join the Gunners when he turns 18 in June, presumably slotting straight into the youth teams alongside fellow top talents.
