Tottenham without young English trio for Dortmund trip

Dele Alli, Eric Dier, and Danny Rose have all stayed at home rather than travel for the first leg of the Europa League last 16.

Tottenham Hotspur will be without English trio Dele Alli, Eric Dier, and Danny Rose for the trip to face Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday, the club's website has confirmed.

Alli picked up his third yellow card of the tournament in the second leg victory over Fiorentina, whilst Dier and Rose are being rested after picking up minor complaints.

Meanwhile, Jan Vertonghen and Clinton N'Jie are continuing to work on their recoveries from knee injuries, although the Belgian defender has travelled to support the squad.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is expected to make several changes to his starting XI after the intense North London derby draw against Arsenal as he attempts to keep the momentum going in the club's Premier League title challenge.

Youngsters such as Josh Onomah and Nabil Bentaleb could feature, whilst Harry Winks, who was awarded a new contract earlier this week, is also part of the squad which has travelled to Germany.

The Londoners face a trip to Premier League bottom side Aston Villa on Sunday as they look to attempt to close the five-point gap on Leicester City at the top of the table.

Pochettino's men kick off against Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park at 6pm on Thursday as they look to reach the quarter-final stage of the Europa League for the first time in three years.
