Shaka Hislop explains whether he’d prefer Allardyce or McClaren

Sam Allardyce

Sunderland and Newcastle are both fighting off relegation.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Shaka Hislop has discussed whether he’d prefer Sam Allardyce or Steve McClaren as head coach of a team in a relegation fight.

Hislop said: “Right now, for Newcastle to survive, they have to somehow get the better of Sunderland. And in a relegation fight, who do you prefer: Steve McClaren or Sam Allardyce? Sam Allardyce all day long.”

McClaren has been in charge for the entire season, and Newcastle appear to be getting worse under the head coach.

He does not appear to have the ability to get out of a relegation fight, and his lack of passion and fight is costing the side.

On the other hand, Sunderland opted to get rid of Dick Advocaat early in the season when it was clear he was not the right man for the job, and Sam Allardyce was brought in.

Allardyce has built a career as a manager who can save top flight teams from relegation, and whilst the Black Cats are still not out of the fight, they have been improving since his arrival.

Few people would bet against the Wearside club staying in the Premier League with Allardyce in charge, and Hislop has admitted that he would always prefer the Sunderland boss over McClaren.

Newcastle look doomed if they keep ahold of McClaren, and Allardyce will be hoping to capitalise on the poor form of the Magpies by securing survival with Sunderland.
