Ibrahimovic has spent the last four seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, but it has been reported that the Swedish international will seal a switch to another side later in 2016.
After witnessing Ibrahimovic star in PSG's 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the Champions League, Schmeichel says that the 34-year-old should look to ply his trade in England during the next campaign.
As well as playing in Ligue 1, Ibrahimovic has previously spent time in La Liga and Serie A, but the fast-paced nature of the Premier League would represent a new challenge.
Several English clubs have been linked with his signature in the past but interest has either been rebuffed by clubs or Ibrahimovic himself.
Each of the Premier League's top clubs are likely to be interested, although a transfer to Leicester seems unlikely, despite the Foxes currently sitting in top spot in the standings.
Ibrahimovic has scored 31 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions this season.
