Roy Hodgson shares his thoughts on Mark Noble and Danny Drinkwater

The West Ham and Leicester stars are pushing for England call-ups.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Roy Hodgson has admitted that Mark Noble and Danny Drinkwater are pushing for England call-ups, although Jack Wilshere is also close to returning from injury.

Hodgson said: “Mark Noble and Danny Drinkwater are knocking on the door. Jack, we believe, is quite close now and both he and Arsenal are being careful with a view to making sure he is 100 per cent before they take a chance with him. On past performances he merits a place, a player who can get the rest of the team playing, but I do say he’s got to be fit.”

Wilshere has bene injured for months, and even if he is fit for the summer, few people believe he deserves a place in the squad for this summers European Championship.

He has proven himself with England before, but has not played for an entire season, and seems to be taking the squad place of more impressive players by default.

Noble and Drinkwater are two of the players who many believe should be getting a chance ahead of the Euros, as they have been enjoying fantastic seasons for their respective clubs, West Ham and Leicester.

They are both energetic ball-winning playmakers, fulfilling a much more rounded game than Wilshere has ever shown to possess.

The duo have been the central part of their teams success this year, and Noble even captains the Hammers due to his all action displays in the middle of the park.

Neither player has ever been capped at the senior level for England, and now would seem to be the perfect time to capitalise on their form.
