Report: French-speaking players to head Aston Villa summer firesale

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Last summer's signings such as Jordan Ayew, Jordan Veretout and Idrissa Gana are some of the players most likely to move on upon the club's relegation.

Aston Villa's unsuccessful French revolution will be put out of its misery this summer with several of last summer's signings set to lead the mass exodus at Villa Park upon the club's relegation, according to the Birmingham Mail.

With Tim Sherwood in charge, Villa's transfer policy last summer focused mainly on bringing in talent from Ligue 1, with Jordan Ayew, Jordan Veretout, Jordan Amavi, and Idrissa Gana all arriving from the French top flight.

However, that tactic has not paid dividends, with Sherwood being sacked in October and the club having rotted away at the bottom of the league for the vast majority of the season.

With Villa's relegation appearing inevitable, the Birmingham Mail now reports that several of the club's signings at the start of the season are amongst the most in-demand players at Villa Park.

The report suggests that Ayew is interesting other clubs in the Premier League, whilst Veretout, who allegedly turned down moves away from the club in January, and Gana are likely to return to France, with Marseille thought to be interested in the latter midfielder.

Meanwhile, French flop Charles N'Zogbia will not be offered a new contract at the club when his current deal expires at the end of the season, whilst former Barcelona winger Adama Traore is likely to reconsider his options.

There are also doubts over the future of Sherwood's successor Remi Garde and his French coaching staff, although Villa director Mervyn King confirmed yesterday that any decision over whether the former Lyon boss will stay at the club will ultimately be down to the manager himself.

Villa are nine points adrift of safety at the bottom of the Premier League table, having won just thee league matches all season.
