Tottenham have performed above all expectations so far this season, and they are currently just five points behind top of the table Leicester City.
The Lilywhites look near certainties to qualify for the Champions League, but they still have their sights set on lifting the title in May.
Spurs have built their campaign on the strength of their team ethic, but Thompson doesn’t believe their success would have been possible without Kane.
“I'd probably have to go for Harry Kane,” Thompson said, when asked to pick his young player of the season. “If you think of where Spurs are, pushing for the title for the first time in years, Kane has been the driving force behind that. I don't think Dele Alli would get the same space and time as Kane, who is a proper team player.”
Kane actually started the season slowly, and there a few suggestions that he would not be able to repeat last year’s heroics.
However, the 22-year-old has responded to his critics and proven his quality once and for all.
Kane has been handed a great deal of responsibility, and he has now notched 20 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions.
