Newcastle United fans appear divided on the prospect of former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson taking over from Steve McClaren following an on-line poll conducted by HITC sport.
According to a recent report in The Sun, Newcastle are set to have crunch talks with McClaren after a poor run of form has left them facing the realistic prospect of relegation to the Championship.
It’s not just the club’s current league position which is alarming, it’s the performances which goes with it.
Newcastle have vastly underachieved for the money which they have spent this season, and many now believe only a change in management will them beat the drop over the next ten games.
But who should the club appoint as the former England manager’s successor? Nigel Pearson is an option, yet the supporters seem divided over the prospect of him taking over at St. James’ Park.
As shown by the poll results, over 1,200 Newcastle supporters participated in the vote and 57% said they would welcome Pearson as McClaren’s successor now, with 43% against the idea.
Pearson certainly divides opinion, yet there is no denying his ability to pull off a miraculous escape as proven last season as Leicester City managed to fight off relegation against all the odds.
The Foxes have gone on to perform exceptionally well this season, currently topping the table, illustrating how Pearson and his back-room staff certainly have an eye for a player.
But, on the flip side, he does come with a little extra baggage in terms of strange media outbursts and a fiery temper on the side-lines, yet perhaps that’s the sort of thing Newcastle could do with right now.
