Manager Kenny Jackett has told the Express and Star that Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Matt Doherty needs to step up.
Doherty scored a last minute winner for Wolves, as they beat Bristol City 2-1 at Molineux.
The defender charged forward to score the winner against the Robins, and Jackett wants him to build on that display now.
"He's an asset for us because he's been strong defensively” he said.
“The most important thing for Matt is that it has to be his time now. I want him to come through and be a leader now.
"He was one of the older players out there in the second half and he has to step up now, build on what he's done and be one of the players to lead Wolves.”
Doherty actually dropped out of Wolves’ starting line-up for a stage earlier in the season, but he was brought back in at left-back and he seems to have secured his place.
Wolves’ line-up is so young that Doherty is now one of their more experienced players, and it seems he is being tasked with guiding the youngsters through.
Wolves’ win over Bristol City did not do much for the league standing, which is currently disappointing.
Jackett’s side are stuck in 12th place in the Championship table, as they have struggled to find consistency this term.
