Arsenal defeated Hull City 4-0 at the KC Stadium.
Arsenal had reason to be happy after they demolished Hull City 4-0 in their fifth round FA Cup replay, yet a banner found in the visiting end in contrast told a completely different story.
As shown by the picture above, it read: “Arsenal, thanks for the memories but it’s time to say goodbye.”
Arsenal went to Hull City looking for victory which would send them in to the quarter-finals, and more importantly on the road to a potential third straight FA Cup triumph.
No team has achieved such a feat in modern history, therefore surely it should be deemed as something quite unique and a mark for the fans to be clearly proud of...
However, Arsenal supporters evidently have their eye on the bigger picture and one which tells them that the FA Cup aside, their season looks to be all-but over as early as March for the sixth season running.
The Gunners trail Barcelona 2-0 in their Champions League tie, and overturning a two-goal deficit against the best team in Europe at the Nou Camp is an almost impossible task, especially for this Arsenal team.
But the one that gets supporters most is the club’s current league position - third in table, eight points off the leaders and with only nine games left and 27 points up for grabs.
To rub salt into the wounds, the two teams above Arsenal aren’t the usual suspects - Chelsea, Manchester City or Manchester United - yet instead Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Many have said that if Arsenal don’t win the Premier League title in such a season as the current campaign, then they never will. And now it appears their own supporters have ultimately come to the same conclusion.
