Everton suffered another poor defeat to West Ham on Saturday.
Martinez said: “We’ve grown as a team, we've shown we can score goals and defend really really well, but then we go into periods where we can't really defend and we get hurt too easy and concede goals that affect scorelines with extreme ease. I felt the last six games we'd found a really consistent level of performance in different competitions, keeping very good clean sheets.”
Everton were defeated by West Ham at the weekend, losing 3-2 despite leading by two goals heading into the final stages of the game.
It was the Toffees’ eighth defeat of the season, and once again, it was defensive errors which brought around the loss.
Two headers in quick succession were scored by Michail Antonio and Diafra Sakho, before Dimitri Payet capitalised on some poor play in the penalty area to score the winner in injury.
Fans can see every game that Martinez is failing to address the defensive issues present at Goodison Park, with Everton constantly shooting themselves in the foot - despite being fantastic in the attacking zones.
Romelu Lukaku benefits from all the great players around him, but for all his goalscoring, he cannot fire them up the league as the Everton defence continue to make errors.
The fans can see this every week, but Martinez has claimed that he only sees improvement and growth from his Everton team when they take to the field.
