Leeds manager Steve Evans and Mirco Antenucci both need a reality check

Leeds beat Bolton at the weekend, but should not get carried away.

Leeds United got back on track at the weekend with a win over Bolton Wanderers, bouncing back from their 4-0 loss at Brighton.

The victory provided a much needed boost for a Leeds side who had won only one of their last 11 Championship matches heading into the game against Bolton.

The 2-1 win lifted spirits, but they should not get carried away just yet.

Evans told BBC Radio Leeds this week he is now targeting a top 10 finish. This is a positive aspiration and gives a bit of meaning to the club's season if they are really going for it, but their chances are not high.

Currently in 16th place, Leeds will undo their good work at the weekend if they lost this evening away to Cardiff City, who are in seventh position and only out of the play-offs on goal difference.

The win against Bolton was far from comprehensive, and they were left hanging on for the final few minutes.

Beating Neil Lennon's troubled side was the minimum requirement, and Leeds only just about managed it. Evans should not get overly carried away by suddenly discussing a top 10 finish.

Another man to who the same applies is match winner Mirco Antenucci, who netted a brace on his return to the side.

They were his first goals for Leeds since December, after a spell of form where he looked to be either lacking the quality required, or simply disinterested.

Suddenly after his goals, he is looking for a new contract, telling LUTV he wants to get a deal sorted out.

Antenucci is a good striker on his day, but Leeds should not bend over backwards for him, and should only extend a deal for the 31-year-old if he is prepared to be a back-up, with new strikers needed in the summer.

He has been far too inconsistent this season, and a declaration of wanting to stay is well and good, but it would mean a lot more if it had came after a run of good games, rather than just one.
