Arsenal legend Ian Wright highlighted on the BBC Radio 5 live 606 show on Sunday evening (March 6) a key difference between Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.
“You look at Newcastle yesterday,” said former Palace star Wright. “They look like they have got a lot of work to do. You look at Palace - they are close, and that’s where you hang your hat on.
“The fact that, okay that was a bit unlucky, the goalkeeper made a massive mistake. The penalty could have been a bit harsh, maybe you could have got away with a 1-1 out of it, but in the end they lost the game.”
Both Newcastle and Palace lost in the Premier League at the weekend, but the manner in which they dropped the points were different.
While Steve McClaren’s side were soundly beaten 3-1 by Bournemouth at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon, Alan Pardew’s team conceded a controversial late penalty to go down 2-1 to Liverpool at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment, while Palace are nine points above the relegation zone.
A couple of wins should be enough for the Eagles to retain their Premier League status for next season.
As for Newcastle, it is becoming harder and harder for fans to remain optimistic about their chances of survival.
