Rangers are in the Scottish Championship at the moment, while Old Firm rivals Celtic are currently in the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers are going strong in the Championship and appear set for automatic promotion to the Premiership at the end of the season.
Former Celtic striker Johnson, who now works as head of recruitment at Blackburn Rovers, believes that Rangers getting promoted to the Scottish top flight is going to help Celtic, suggesting that he wants the Gers to go back up.
“Rangers coming up will be the best thing that could happen to Celtic because not having those games is horrible,” Johnson told The Scottish Sun. “That’s why so many players signed for Celtic. They want that atmosphere.”
Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 63 points from 28 matches.
Ronny Deila’s side are just four points clear of second-placed Aberdeen, and it appears that they will have to work harder than usual to win the league title this season.
Meanwhile, Rangers currently find themselves at the top of the Scottish Championship with 69 points from 27 matches, 12 points clear of second-placed Falkirk and have a game in hand.
