Aldridge wants Coutinho and Sturridge to start for Liverpool against Manchester United

The duo were dropped by Jurgen Klopp for Sunday's win over Crystal Palace.

Jurgen Klopp should return Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge to the Liverpool first team for the clash with Manchester United, John Aldridge has told the Liverpool Echo.

The duo was dropped on Sunday, with Klopp opting for Adam Lallana and Divock Origi for his starting line up against Crystal Palace.

Coutinho managed to make an appearance but Sturridge remained on the bench as his side beat the Eagles 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

Aldridge though, is expecting both to return to the starting line up for the Europa League clash with United on Thursday.

The Manchester United game is huge. I’ve always wanted to play against them in Europe although I obviously hoped it would be in the Champions League.

“We’ve got to do what we did against Man City and deliver the same type of performance,” he wrote in the Liverpool Echo.

“I think Jurgen Klopp will be keen to freshen it up and I’d expect Daniel Sturridge to come back in place of Origi and Coutinho replacing either Adam Lallana or Roberto Firmino.”

“Nathaniel Clyne will be back too. With no game in between the ties we should be as fresh as a daisy.”

It will certainly be interesting to see what team Klopp goes with, as it will be an indication of how serious he is taking the competition.

The German has largely gone with young teams so far, but many would expect that to change for such a big game with their rivals.

If it doesn’t, and he keeps his big stars on the bench, perhaps it is an indication he is prioritizing a late push for the top four over winning the Europa League.
