West Ham to push for Premier League title? Graeme Souness thinks so

West Ham United can compete with Leicester City, Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title, suggests Graeme Souness.

Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Graeme Souness has suggested in The Sunday Times that West Ham United can challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester City are the four contenders for the league title at this stage of the 2015-16 campaign.

Recent results for West Ham suggest that they could make a push for the top four, but the the league title?

“I keep coming back to their (Leicester’s) last three games: Manchester United away, Everton at home, Chelsea at Stamford Bridge,” Souness wrote in The Sunday Times. “Sure, they can beat Everton but what about if they have to pick up six points? That will be the defining moment.

“And that could well be the target because I think Tottenham will maintain their challenge and quite possibly Arsenal and Manchester City as well. I’m not sure I’d even rule out West Ham because it has been that kind of season.”

It is quite a bold comment from Souness, especially as West Ham are as many as 11 points behind leaders Leicester.

For the Hammers to win the league title, they will need Leicester, Tottenham, Arsenal and City all to drop points between now and the end of the season.

Okay, one or two team could struggle, but all four?

West Ham have no chance whatsoever of winning the league title this season, but a Champions League place is certainly within their reach.

Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, the Hammers can look back on the 2015-16 campaign as a success.
