Liverpool have made an initial approach for Samuel Bastien, CalcioMercato reports.
The 19-year-old midfielder currently plays for Avellino in Italy’s Serie B, playing 24 times this season.
The midfielder is on loan at the Italian club from Anderlecht, where Bastien is a product of the academy.
The Belgian club have produced a number of talented youngsters in recent years, and Bastien looks to be the next on that production line.
The report claims that Liverpool have been scouting Bastien for much of the season, and have watched some impressive performances which are set to see the youngster called up to the Belgian Under-21 team for the first-time this month.
It is claimed that they even tried signing him last summer, hoping to agree a deal for Bastien before he moved on loan to Avellino.
Clearly they have been interested in the highly rated midfielder for a long time, and they are making approaches to sign him this summer.
Avellino have the option to sign Bastien on a permanent deal this summer, for roughly a £3 million (€4m) fee, but Liverpool are ready to trump that offer.
It is stated that the Merseyside club will offer roughly £5.2 million (€6.7m) for his services, a fee which Anderlecht are expected to accept for Bastien.
