Leeds United won against Bolton Wanderers in the Championship at the weekend.
Former Stoke City and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Chris Iwelumo said on The Championship: Football League show on Channel 5 on Saturday evening (broadcast from 9pm) that Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has his players behind him.
Iwelumo made the comments following Leeds’s victory over Bolton Wanderers at home in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The West Yorkshire outfit bounced back from the 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion away from home last week with a narrow 2-1 win against relegation candidates Bolton at Elland Road.
Former Burnley striker Iwelumo was impressed with the way the Leeds players reacted to the loss to Brighton and praised Evans for the work he has done at Leeds.
“I think he has got in there and he has steadied the ship,” Iwelumo said about Evans on The Championship: Football League show on Channel 5 on Saturday evening (broadcast from 9pm).
“Okay, they had an absolute drubbing against Brighton, but he has got a reaction. That for me shows that the team is behind him. They believe in what he is saying and what he is putting to them.”
Iwelumo’s observation about Evans is encouraging, as it shows that the players are behind the Scot and are playing for him.
Leeds’s recent results have been disappointing, and there is a lingering threat that the Whites could get dragged into the relegation fight.
The win against Bolton has allayed those fears a bit, but Leeds now need to put together a run of positive results.
