Jamie Carragher raves about West Bromwich Albion's tactical set-up under Tony Pulis

West Brom

West Bromwich Albion beat Manchester United 1-0 yesterday.

Jamie Carragher has praised West Bromwich Albion’s ability to make it difficult for teams to play against them on Sky Sports.

The Baggies took on an in-form Manchester United side yesterday, and they showed their class to pick up a 1-0 victory.

The Red Devils struggled to break Tony Pulis’ side down, and Salomon Rondon made them pay by blasting in a winner in the latter stages of the contest.

United supporters were frustrated by their side’s insipid display, but Carragher felt that West Brom deserved a lot of credit for their performance.

“West Brom are the type of team that because they have so many men behind the ball, it is okay saying you want to play quick, but they force you to keep the ball and go sideways as they are such a tight unit,” the former Liverpool defender said.

"Their centre-forwards are on your central midfield players, so it is very difficult to get that pace in your play against West Brom.”

United’s task of beating West Brom was made harder after Juan Mata was sent off in the first-half.

After that the Baggies were the favourites to win, and they eventually made their numerical advantage pay.

The Baggies' win means that they have now taken 10 points out of the last 12 available, and they have moved up to 11th in the Premier League table.

Pulis’ side are now 15 points clear of the drop zone, and surely safe from relegation.
