Speaking to the Daily Mail, Celtic hero Frank McGarvey has suggested that Ronny Deila could still lose his job with Celtic this summer - even if he wins the double.
McGarvey said: “Ronny Deila has been under pressure all year so he’s under more pressure again. He could actually win the Double and might still get the sack, so that’s the kind of pressure he’s under.”
Deila was a surprising appointment when named Celtic head coach before the start of the 2014/15 season.
He had hardly achieved much in his career, but was named into a high pressure role at Parkhead, and this pressure has never really been eased.
He failed in his attempts to get into the Champions League last season, and although he did a domestic double it was without much style.
He also failed in the Champions League qualifying stages this term, and then in the Europa League group stage, and Celtic’s poor performances in the Premiership have opened the door for Aberdeen to win the title.
His team are worse than they were when he took over, and fans are voicing their criticism with every passing week.
Still, the season could end successfully, and Deila could lead Celtic to victory in the league and the Scottish Cup.
Another double, but McGarvey suggests that this could still not be enough for Deila to keep his job at the end of the season.
The fans don’t want him at Parkhead, and the board may just agree with the supporters by the end of the year.
