Fraser Aird left Rangers in January to agree a loan deal with Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS, signing until the end of the American season.
A product of the Rangers youth academy, Aird has already made 85 appearances for the Gers - despite being just 21 - although he was out of favour this season.
Mark Warburton clearly rates the right-back, but he managed just four appearances this season, and the decision to loan him out will be best for Aird’s career.
A Canadian international, Aird has returned to his homeland to play consistent competitive football, and he started his first game for the Caps on Sunday evening.
It was the first matchday of the 2016 MLS season, and Aird started at right-back as Vancouver fell to a 3-2 home defeat to Canadian rivals Montreal Impact.
The experience will be imperative if Aird wants to fulfil his potential and make sure he can become a Rangers star in the future, but his first start was not as good as he would have hoped.
The youngster looked a threat going forward, but he struggled in the defensive aspect of his game, something that comes with a lack of experience.
Following the game, fans took to Twitter to react to Aird’s performance, with some mixed views as to how he performed.
Welcome to the MLS Fraser Aird. The players are pretty skilled here aren't they.— Clive (@RedHotCoach) March 6, 2016
It is a little concerning that Fraser Aird doesn't seem very good at defence. #WhitecapsFC— Adam Coombs (@acoombs14) March 6, 2016
