Bookies make David Moyes 11/8 favourite for Newcastle job; Pearson and Rodgers also in the running

St James Park

Newcastle United's current manager Steve McClaren is facing questions about his future.

According to bookmakers Ladbrokes, David Moyes is the favourite to replace Steve McClaren as manager of Newcastle United if the latter is sacked.

The Magpies’ 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday left them 19th in the Premier League table with just 10 matches remaining, and while Newcastle are only a point away from 17th-placed Sunderland the teams above the bottom four are now pulling away.

With Aston Villa all but doomed it suggests that two from three of Newcastle, Sunderland and Norwich City will be playing Championship football next season, and McClaren’s job is under threat as a result,

Ladbrokes have made former Everton and Manchester United manager Moyes the 11/8 favourite to be the next permanent manager of Newcastle, with ex-Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson the 11/4 second favourite.

Outside bets include Brendan Rodgers and Rafa Benitez while Harry Redknapp is rated at 10/1 to rock up at St James’ Park.

Whatever happens, it seems a change is necessary to ensure Newcastle are not left to regret missed opportunities this season.
