With Aston Villa all but doomed it suggests that two from three of Newcastle, Sunderland and Norwich City will be playing Championship football next season, and McClaren’s job is under threat as a result,
Ladbrokes have made former Everton and Manchester United manager Moyes the 11/8 favourite to be the next permanent manager of Newcastle, with ex-Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson the 11/4 second favourite.
Outside bets include Brendan Rodgers and Rafa Benitez while Harry Redknapp is rated at 10/1 to rock up at St James’ Park.
Whatever happens, it seems a change is necessary to ensure Newcastle are not left to regret missed opportunities this season.
