BBC pundit writes off Tottenham’s title chances, criticises Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris

Garth Crooks was not impressed with Hugo Lloris’s performance for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal on Saturday.

Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur will not win the Premier League title this season.

The former Tottenham forward made the comments following the North London derby at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs played out a 2-2 draw with 10-man Arsenal and are now five points behind leaders Leicester City.

Crooks has written off Tottenham’s chances of winning the league title this season and has also criticised goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

“I've said it before and I'll say it again: Spurs cannot win the Premier League title,” the Englishman told BBC Sport. “What they can do is produce moments of magic like the goal scored by Harry Kane that should have won the game and proved that they are capable of winning the matches that matter.

“What really disappoints me is the form of Hugo Lloris, who appears to freeze in the big games. It's happened three times this season against Arsenal away, West Ham in midweek and again against the Gunners at White Hart Lane.

“If you are going to win titles, you need players who play their best football in the biggest games and don't suffer from moments of stage-fright. It's just as well Spurs have Kane but he can't win the Premier league title on his own.”

Lloris is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and is arguably the only world-class player in the current Tottenham squad.

It is a bit harsh of Crooks to criticise the France international with such strong words, especially as he has made crucial saves in several Premier League matches this season.

As for Tottenham not winning the league title, they are just five points behind leaders Leicester - a gap that can be clawed back.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will take on Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League next weekend.
