The Liverpool legend made the comments following the Reds’ narrow 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace away from home at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Merseyside outfit are now seventh in the Premier League table with 44 points from 28 matches, six points behind fourth-manchester City, who have a game in hand.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes that Jurgen Klopp’s side are too inconsistent to mount a serious challenge for a top-four finish in the table.
“The top four is still a big ask for the Reds while they remain so inconsistent but winning the way they did against Palace, after playing poorly, will be such a good feeling,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
Liverpool have been quite inconsistent this season and have not played particularly well either.
However, this is a crazy season in which everything seems to be possible, and maybe, just maybe, the Reds have a chance of a top-four finish.
Not many genuinely expect Klopp’s side to finish in the top four, and perhaps this lack of pressure and expectation will play a positive role.
