Benteke's late cameo against Crystal Palace proved to be match winner and Adam Lallana has backed the Belgian to push on.
Benteke was introduced into the action at 1-1, and was brought down by Palace's Damein Delaney in stoppage time, giving the forward the opportunity to win the game from the penalty spot - a chance he did not waste.
It has been a hard spell for the player who signed from Aston Villa for £32.5 million in the summer, as it was his first goal since the end of December.
Lallana told the Liverpool Echo: “I was delighted for Christian.
“He's been working extremely hard lately to try to get back in the team.
“He's a top striker. He has proved himself in the Premier League. Sometimes you go through barren spells, we've all had them.
“He showed great composure to score after being brought down for the penalty. It was ice-cool the way he put it away.
“It's a massive moment for Christian and the team. I'm sure he'll push on from this now.”
It was Benteke's eighth goal of the season and if he manages to go on a goalscoring run whenever he gets the opportunity it will give manager Jurgen Klopp food for thought, both in regards to Benteke's future and how to use him if he were to say at Anfield beyond this season.
There have been flashes of quality from the Belgian in the early part of the season, but his time at the club so far has been summed up by static play and missed chances - especially in recent months. But given how crucial his intervention was in this encounter, Benteke and the rest of the side will hope it is a time when he can push on in front of goal, and finish the season with a decent goalscoring return.
He faces fierce competition from Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi up front, but he certainly took the opportunity presented to him in his cameo against Crystal Palace.
