Aston Villa’s awful season continued as they were defeated 4-0 by Manchester City on Saturday.
Remi Garde’s side managed to keep the Blues at bay until the 48th minute to suggest a repeat of the 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture could be on the cards.
However, City had other ideas and a brace from Sergio Aguero and a goal apiece from Yaya Toure and Raheem Sterling ensured Manuel Pellegrini’s men got back to winning ways.
The result leaves bottom club Villa nine points below the safety line with just 27 points left to play for and the way Garde’s men capitulate so regularly suggests there is little chance they can turn things around now.
Midfielder Ashley Westwood was making his 28th appearance of the campaign on Saturday but he was unable to make a positive impact on proceedings and prompted plenty of discussion on social media both during and after the match.
After the game we took to Twitter to see what Villa fans thought of Westwood’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Get gabby and Westwood off please, don't bring on bacuna #avfc— Leighton Allen (@JUST_Leighton_A) March 5, 2016
If there was a drinking game where you sculled every time Ashley Westwood did something good on pitch for #avfc, you'd end up dead sober— Lance Jenkinson (@westsport) March 5, 2016
#avfc Remi. What possible damage could it do playing the kids instead of Gabby, Bacuna and Westwood?— Lucas (@sanctuaryvilla) March 5, 2016
I like Garde, but to keep playing Gabby and Westwood is ludicrous. And then to bring Bacuna on instead of Lydon is a joke#avfc— villachad (@ChadAVFCD) March 5, 2016
