Liverpool star Roberto Firmino is Premier League’s best attacker in 2016

Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino has been superb of late.

Liverpool attacker Roberto Fimrino has scored and assisted more goals combined than any other Premier League player since the turn of the New Year, Opta Stats illustrate.

The Brazil international joined the Reds in the summer from German club Hoffenheim, a deal which was lauded by a number of Liverpool supporters as they recognised his talent in the Bundesliga

However, Firmino struggled for the first half of the season, first failing to feature regularly under Brendan Rodgers before only showing his talent in spurts under Jurgen Klopp.

Since the turn of the year, though, the talented forward has demonstrated exactly why he was so highly sought after and a continuation of his current form will more than justify the fee paid for his services.

Sergio Agüero Man City 9 1 9
Jermain Defoe Sunderland 7 1 10
Roberto Firmino Liverpool 7 4 9
Diego Costa Chelsea 6 4 9
Harry Kane Tottenham 6 0 10

As shown by the table provided by Opta, Firmino is the Premier League’s most dangerous attacker in 2016.

The 24-year-old has scored seven goals and added a further four assists in his last nine league matches, a combined total which outshines every other attacker including Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Klopp’s preference of playing a high-intensity style with attacks directed through the middle no doubt aids Firmino’s game, and the same can also be said of Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana.

The three energetic midfielders have the potential to cause the opposition an abundance of problems, yet a lack of consistency on their part has so far been their downfall this season.

With Firmino in such good form, Liverpool’s top four hopes remain alive and if others can raise their game to his level the Reds could end up turning a pretty average season into a potentially excellent one.
