The Manchester United legends were bemused by the referee's decision.
Manchester United legends Andy Cole and Peter Schmeichel have reacted to Juan Mata's red card in this afternoon's 1-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion.
The Spanish midfielder picked up two yellow cards from referee Mike Dean in the space of three first-half minutes.
His first booking came on 24 minutes for encroachment when he blocked a quickly-taken free kick, before he was then adjudged to have fouled Darren Fletcher.
The decision by Dean to brandish a second yellow has been met with derision from Schmeichel and Cole, with the duo suggesting that the referee got it wrong.

Not a red for me.. Every foul seems a bookable offence these days— Andrew Cole (@vancole9) March 6, 2016
Former QPR and Manchester City man Rodney Marsh also offered his two cents on the decision.
There was contact MUST be red card LOL.......MATA— Rodney Marsh (@RodneyMarsh10) March 6, 2016
Salomon Rondon's goal on 67 minutes was enough for the Baggies to deal United's Champions League hopes something of a blow.
Louis van Gaal's side stay sixth in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City who have a game in hand.
With Liverpool and West Ham United also in the running for a top-four finish, the defeat was not ideal for the Red Devils, who have nine games to go.
