Pulis praises Rondon and Fletcher after West Brom's win over Manchester United

West Bromwich Albion overcame Manchester United courtesy of some standout performances.

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has been speaking after his side’s 1-0 victory against Manchester United on Sunday, with his comments later posted on the Baggies’ official Twitter account.

West Brom won courtesy of a second-half strike from summer signing Salomon Rondon, and Pulis was quick to praise the forward.

The Baggies boss also took the time to single out West Brom captain – and former United player – Darren Fletcher.

“Salomon is a smashing lad,” Pulis said. “It was great to see him score the goal.”

Rondon scored what proved to be the winner in the 66th minute, 40 minutes after United midfielder Juan Mata was dismissed for two quickly acquired yellow cards.

It was foolish from the Spaniard and ultimately damaged United’s chances of finishing in the top four, with Louis van Gaal’s side struggling to create any chances of note thereafter.

Fletcher was the victim of one of Mata’s fouls and the Scotland international bossed the centre of the park; something Pulis was quick to mention.

“It helps when you have a captain and a player like Darren Fletcher,” the Baggies boss added. “He is a big presence for us on and off the pitch.”

The win takes West Brom up to 11th in the Premier League, with 39 points from 29 matches and next up is a visit to Arsenal on Saturday.
