John Gregory has taken to social networking site Twitter to claim that Aston Villa should have signed Joey Barton in the summer transfer window.
Barton left Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season and moved to Championship side Burnley on a free transfer in the summer of 2015.
Former Villa midfielder and manager Gregory believes that the Villans should have recruited the former Newcastle United midfielder when they had the chance to.
#AVFC I suggested Villa should sign Joey Barton last Summer free agent. Lots of fans said NO WAY..Burnley are top and we are embarrassing.— John Gregory (@JohnGregory77) March 5, 2016
Barton is doing quite well at Burnley, who are on course to getting automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.
The Clarets are at the top of the Championship table at the moment with 68 points from 35 matches, a point clear of second-placed Middlesbrough, who have a game in hand.
Former Manchester City midfielder Barton has scored two goals and created 19 chances in 27 league games for Burnley.
The Englishman has a pass accuracy of 75% and a shot accuracy of 41%, and has won 45 headers, nine dribbles and 58 tackles.
