The former England under-21 international may come as a surprise choice.
The Englishman came through the youth ranks at Southampton and made his debut for the club aged just 17.
He went on to play over 300 games for the club, the majority of which came in the Premier League.
His best season was probably his 1999-2000 campaign and he was a consistent performer in the Southampton midfield for seven years.
During that time he was often mentioned as a potential England international but the call never came in the competitive central-midfield position. Think of him as a Mark Noble of his day.
His passing range and determination made him a perfect player for Southampton in their consistent battles in the Premier League.
In the end knee injuries saw him struggle toward the conclusion of his Saints career. His move to then Championship rivals Derby County also tainted his reputation slightly among the Saints faithful.
He is currently still playing aged 38 for League Two side Exeter City and is not forgotten at Southampton.
