Rio Ferdinand, Ray Parlour and Rodney Marsh are just a few of many who took to social media site Twitter in order to slam Arsenal’s Francis Coquelin for his sending off in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners took the lead through a first-half strike from Aaron Ramsey and looked in control of proceeding until Coquelin’s dismissal for a second bookable offence turned the game on its head.
The French midfielder was already on a yellow for a first-half handball when he cleaned out Harry Kane with a desperate looking challenge, giving the referee little option to send him off.
In such a key game at such a critical moment, pundits and observers alike blasted the midfielder as eight minutes later his side found themselves incredibly 2-1 down and up against it.

Coquelin has been such a key figure for Arsene Wenger’s side since breaking through at the beginning of 2015, but he showed his inexperience at White Hart Lane and it proved costly.
Alexis Sanchez’s equaliser rescued a point for the visitors and went some way to sparing Coquelin’s blushes, yet the damage was already done as Arsenal rue two points potentially dropped.
Leicester City were again the big winners as a draw keeps the Foxes ahead of the chasing pack regardless of their outcome in the evening clash with Watford, but a win could take them seven points clear of Arsenal.
Coquelin will be suspended for the Gunners’ next league encounter with West Bromwich Albion.
