The former Arsenal attacker believes that Tottenham Hotspur will finish second, the Gunners third and Manchester City fourth.
“I have to make Leicester favourites because of what is happening this weekend with both their main rivals Tottenham and Arsenal playing each other, as if they draw that game and Leicester win, that will be it for me,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“As for Man City, I think they will just finish fourth, but they need to liven up, although they have the players,” added the former England international.
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has also predicted Leicester to clinch the championship this campaign.
The former Liverpool defender believes that Tottenham will end up second, Arsenal third and City fourth.
“It's so difficult, especially with other teams coming up on the rails,” Thompson told Sky Sports. “Even Chelsea must be having a little rethink on their top-four chances, but I'm going with Leicester because of their fixtures. I just feel at the moment that the fairytale could become reality.”
Leicester are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment, with Tottenham second, Arsenal third and City fourth.
Given that the Foxes are three points clear and that they are showing no signs of slowing down, it makes sense to make them title favourites.
With Tottenham and Arsenal playing each other this weekend, a win for Leicester is only going to enhance their chances of clinching the championship.
One should not count City out of the title race yet. True, Manuel Pellegrini’s side are 10 points behind leaders Leicester, but they have a game in hand and also have a strong squad.
