Aston Villa were defeated 4-0 by Manchester City.
Stan Collymore has taken to social networking site Twitter in order to highlight the one positive from Aston Villa’s latest defeat at Manchester City - the loyal supporters.
Villa were thrashed at the Etihad Stadium, condemning them to a fourth straight Premier League defeat.
While the Villains have long looked like certainties for the drop, the least supporters expect of their players is to show the sort of commitment they do when travellling all over the country to watch them.
The recent 6-0 defeat to Liverpool undoutedly tested the supporters' resolve, and their second-half capitulation against City was another one of those gritted teeth moments.
Commenting in Twitter, Collymore appears resigned to watching his former side Villa go down but commented how impressive the Villa fans were for their superb backing.
Can hear the travelling Holte loud and proud. Thank you for your support as always.#UTV— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) March 5, 2016
Villa's defeat leaves them bottom of the table, and now nine points adrift of safety with just nine games remaining after Sunderland picked up a 1-1 draw at Southampton.
It’s looking increasingly like being three from four - Villa, Newcastle, Norwich City and Sunderland - and on current form arguably the Black Cats have the biggest shot of staying up.
As for Villa, plans must now be in place for their expected drop down to the Championship and a summer clearout will be needed in order to rid the club of both high-earners and those vastly underperforming.
