Liverpool’s Jon Flanagan says he is leaving all contract talks to his agent but admits it was great to hear boss Jurgen Klopp sing his praises following the Manchester City win, the Independent report.
The talented fullback has recently returned to action following an 18-month plus injury lay-off which left many supporters wondering whether he will ever come back as the same player.
Well, after brief appearances in both cup competitions, Flanagan returned to Premier League action against Manchester City and put in a wonderful performance which has since prompted talks of a new deal.
The 23-year-old’s current deal expires this summer, yet Flanagan doesn’t seem too phased over his future and is leaving all contract talks to his agent as he focuses on playing more games for the Reds.
“I am feeling good and fit and sharp so I am just trying to get as many games as possible,” he explained.
“I am just leaving that side [contract talks] to my agent to see what happens but it was great to hear those words from the manager in the press conference.”
Klopp was full of praise for the young fullback after he dominated Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling on his first Premier League appearance since his return from injury.
A number of Reds supporters have urged the club to tie Flanagan down to a new long-term contract, while his reputation with the fans remains as strong as ever as the comparisons with Brazilian legend Cafu continue.
With Alberto Moreno struggling for form, Flanagan is likely to feature more regularly at left-back between now and the end of the season - a decision which would be certainly go down well with the Anfield faithful.
