Tottenham hero Gary Stevens sends big message to fans ahead of North London derby

White Hart Lane 6

Stevens says Tottenham fans must not be negative about their title chances after their midweek loss.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gary Stevens says fans of the club should not be despondent after their midweek loss against West Ham.

Stevens played for Spurs between 1983 and 1990 and helped the club win the 1984 UEFA Cup, scoring in the penalty shootout.

He believes supporters should remain upbeat despite the 1-0 defeat at Upton Park, and take stock of where they are - in a strong position to still go on and win the title. He had this to say on Twitter:

Spurs had an opportunity to go to the top of the Premier League table with a win over the Hammers but were not able to get the job done.

What they do have is a 10 game stretch to topple league leaders Leicester and hold off challenges from competitors Arsenal and Manchester City.

Beating the Gunners this weekend would be a huge step, and home advantage combined with a spate of injuries for Arsenal combine to make Spurs favourites for the important encounter.
