Steve Nicol says win against Manchester City shows this about Liverpool

Liverpool won against Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Steve Nicol has told ESPN FC that the win against Manchester City in midweek shows that the current Liverpool players are not good enough to perform consistently.

Liverpool lost the League Cup final on penalties to City last weekend, but they bounced back against the Citizens at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

The Merseyside outfit got the better of Manuel Pellegrini’s side 3-0 in the Premier League.

Liverpool legend Nicol watched the match, and he was critical of the players despite the victory.

“The fact is that in the Cup final, Liverpool were downright rotten, they played they have been recently, which is inconsistent, and to turn around and play the way they did at Anfield and totally annihilate Manchester City really tells you that the players that Klopp has can’t produce week in and week out,” Nicol told ESPN FC.

Liverpool have been frustrating inconsistent so far this campaign, and that is something that manager Jurgen Klopp needs to address between now and the end of the season.

Some of the players in the current Reds’ squad are quite average, but against City on Wednesday evening, they did step up their game.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can now put together a run of positive results in the Premier League and push for a top-five or a top-six finish.

The Reds will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Crystal Palace away from home at Selhurst Park in the Premier League.
