Scott Wootton’s recent form for Leeds United has not been good.

Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has been quoted as saying by The Yorkshire Evening Post that Scott Wootton has a role to play for the team in the coming weeks.

Wootton has been disappointing in recent weeks and has made some horrible mistakes.

The 24-year-old defender scored an own goal against Watford away from home at Vicarage Road in the fifth round of the FA Cup last month.

Then on Monday evening, the Englishman featured for just 45 minutes in the humiliating 4-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion away from home at the American Express Community Stadium in the Championship.

Recent performances of Wootton suggest that he should not be included in the Leeds starting lineup anytime soon, but Evans has made it clear that the defender remains part of his plans.

"Scott Wootton has a big part play to here,” The Yorkshire Evening Post quotes the Leeds head coach as saying. “He might not play this weekend but he has a big part to play."

Leeds will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Bolton Wanderers at Elland Road in the Championship.

The West Yorkshire outfit are 18th in the league table at the moment with 38 points from 33 matches.

In 21 Championship appearances for Leeds so far this season, Wootton has created 11 chances, has a pass accuracy of 68% and a shot accuracy of 67%, and has won 24 headers, two dribbles and 18 tackles.
