Former Queens Park Rangers and Rangers midfielder Ray Wilkins suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (March 3) that Newcastle United will not get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
“When they bought in January, I thought they would be okay,” said the former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder. “And I still think they will be, but they are struggling to score goals, aren’t they?”
Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 24 points from 27 matches.
The Magpies are level on points with 17th-placed Sunderland, but they have a game in hand.
Steve McClaren’s side are really struggling at the moment, and despite Wilkins’s positive comments, many fans will be apprehensive.
The performances of Newcastle this season have been largely disappointing, and it does not appear that McClaren has a plan on how to sort things out.
Newcastle, who lost against Stoke City away from home on Wednesday evening, will take on Bournemouth at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Bournemouth will head into the match on the back of a 2-0 victory over Southampton at the Vitality Stadium.
