Pundit hits out at Manchester City's midweek performance.

Paul Merson has hit out at Manchester City's midweek performance against Liverpool, but told SkySports he expects they will have no trouble getting a win this weekend.

City were well beaten by Liverpool, just days after beating the Reds on penalties at Wembley in the Capital One Cup final.

The loss meant Manchester City slipped further behind Premier League leaders Leicester City, with 10 points now separating the two teams.

Merson said: "Man City have got to bounce back as they were an absolute joke against Liverpool - they are playing for the top four and it is unbelievable how they capitulated. They should not be getting beaten 3-0 with the amount of talent they have got on the pitch."

Fortunately they face bottom side Aston Villa this weekend who have only won three league games all season. Merson is predicting a 4-0 victory for Manuel Pellegrini's side.

He added: "So I expect them to bounce back and if they could have played anyone on Saturday, then it would have been Villa. City will roll them over."

City are suddenly finding their place in the top four under pressure so anything less than a win would be a big blow.

Manchester United have drawn level on points with them and West Ham are just one point behind, but fortunately City still have one game in hand.
